Choosing Your Main Class in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Patch 10.2

Oct-11-2023

Hello, fellow World of Warcraft adventurers! While we don't have a release date set for the next content update of the Dragonflight Patch 10.2, many of you are already contemplating the age-old question: Which class should you main in the Guardians of the Dream update? In this article, I'll discuss the top 5 classes that stood out to me during my testing of Patch 10.2 and offer insights to help you make an informed decision.

The Rogue Revamp

First off, it's impossible to ignore the revamped Rogue class. With Patch 10.2, Rogues have received an extensive rework, reminiscent of the Paladin revamp in Patch 7.0. The class tree for Rogues is now easier to navigate, offering numerous new defensive and utility options. Assassination Rogues have become even deadlier, with additional AoE improvements. Outlaw Rogues are more versatile than ever, with the return of base abilities like Grapple Hook, Roll the Bones, and Blade Flurry, making the spec feel more complete. Subtlety Rogues, while seeing fewer radical changes, have received familiar talent additions and an improved Shadow Blades, making them formidable in PvP.

Death Knights Shine

If not a Rogue, the trusty Death Knight is an excellent option. While Rogues and Demon Hunters have dominated class revamps, Death Knights have also received welcoming additions. Unholy Death Knights see a shift in their damage profile, becoming less reliant on powerful openers and offering a more satisfying rotational feel. Frost Death Knights, with their new tier set, have more flexibility in playstyle. Additionally, the sturdy Blood spec remains a compelling choice for tanking.

The Demon Hunter Resurgence

Demon Hunters shouldn't be overlooked in Patch 10.2, particularly the DPS spec of Havoc. Both Demon Hunter specs now have access to a talented 2-minute Metamorphosis, providing flexibility in encounters. Havoc Demon Hunters' mobility has also been addressed, and new talents like Dash of Chaos and Inertia offer more options for repositioning and damage output. Vengeance Demon Hunters, while experiencing a smaller refresh than a revamp, now have better defense, offense, and utility options, making them competitive in endgame content.

The Druid's Versatility

The Druid class has always been known for its versatility, and in Patch 10.2, it remains a top choice for players. Restoration Druids benefit from an updated version of Heart of the Wild, which enhances their hybrid potential and introduces new gameplay dynamics. Feral Druids see damage increases while in Incarnation, making them a powerful choice for Mythic dungeons. Balance Druids gain new talent additions, expanding their build possibilities. Furthermore, Guardian Druids, known for their dominance in Mythic Plus, still offer a sturdy choice for tanking.

Hunter - A Surprising Main

Hunters have long been considered excellent alts, but the class has recently seen significant changes. Beast Mastery Hunters now offer more competitive talents, such as the revamped Call of the Wild, which has shorter cooldowns and new upgrade paths for raid and dungeon scenarios. Survival Hunters may fly under the radar, but they excel in crit-focused builds for AoE damage. Additionally, Hunters bring a unique raid buff in the form of Hunter Mark, increasing allies' damage against healthy enemies.

Marksmanship Hunters, while not extensively covered here, are worth keeping an eye on for any potential future changes.

As Patch 10.2 approaches, it's essential to carefully consider your class choice. Whether you're drawn to the revamped Rogue, the versatile Druid, the reliable Death Knight, or the renewed Demon Hunter, there's a class that can suit your playstyle. Hunters, with their improved talents and unique raid buff, have also become a surprising main class contender. Remember that class balancing is an ongoing process, so stay tuned for further updates and tuning adjustments. Your choice of main class should reflect your playstyle and the kind of content you enjoy, so make sure it aligns with your gaming goals. Ultimately, the best class for you is the one you find the most enjoyable and engaging. So, choose wisely and embark on your World of Warcraft adventure in the Guardians of the Dream update!
